More should have been done to avoid roadworks chaos

Rossendale Free Press - - The Rossendale Scribbler -

I IMAGINE I wasn’t the only person to sigh when news emerged that the roadworks causing problems in the town centre of Rawtenstall were here to stay for at least a month.

Obviously, the work being undertaken is very important.

But I do wonder if it couldn’t have been better planned.

For example, any work on Haslingden Road causes problems in the area - and we’ve seen that again in the last few weeks.

But when added to work on Bocholt Way, it has become a nightmare on the main roundabout which is a bottleneck at the best of times.

Rossendale Council has promised to talk to LCC about the works and what can be done to mitigate the impact.

Ideally, that should have happened sooner.

And maybe, next time roadworks are planned, consideration could be given to a ‘one at a time’ approach in our main town centre.
