Legion unveils standard on church parade
ANEW standard has been unveiled at a special service by members of the Haslingden branch of the Royal British Legion.
The old standard was paraded into St Peter’s Church in Haslingden where it was handed to Fr Stephen Brown. After a short service the new standard was brought forward and blessed by the vicar before the Last Post was played.
Amy Thompson, secretary of the Haslingden branch, said the new standard will be used ●● The Haslingden branch of The Royal British Legion hold a new branch standard dedication ceremony at St Peter’s Church, Haslingden. and paraded at the Haslingden Remembrance Sunday event in the Memorial Gardens.
She said: “It took a lot of hard work to pull everything together and a massive thank you needs to be extended to Dave Eltman, the county parade marshall, James Mcauley, Ste Flannery, Eddie Bailey and John Shipman.
“Our branch is going from strength to strength and hopefully our presence in the community will continue to grow, enabling us to continue the vital work of The Royal British Legion.”
The service on Sunday, October 29, was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress, Royal British Legion county chairman Michael Turner, vice chairman Phillip Rees and other dignitaries.
