Dancers get in step for Easter
THE Britannia Coconut Dancers will be kicking off the Easter Saturday festivities with their annual procession through the town.
As ever, the Britannia Coconutters will be accompanied by the Stacksteads Band as they continue their traditional boundary-to-boundary dance on Easter Saturday, March 31.
They begin their day-long trip across the town outside the Old Travellers Rest pub in Britannia at 9am.
Their procession will then head through Bacup and Stacksteads to the Glen Service Station in Waterfoot, to finish at around 7.30pm - raising money for charity along the way.
Gavin McNulty, secretary of the Coconutters, said the group were looking forward to the event, saying it was the highlight of their year.
He added: “It’s the best day of the year for us, it’s part of our history and heritage. Preparation goes on for about six months, it’s like counting down to a holiday!”
The Hare and Hounds pub in Stacksteads and the Rosemount working mens’ club in Bacup are hosting Easter events with live music after the Coconutters’ procession.
