Funding to double

Rossendale Free Press - - St Annes-on-sea -

ROSSENDALE council’s ‘neighbourhood forums’ are to be re-named and given additional funding for a year.

The cabinet also voted to double their £15,000 annual funding for one year only with funds from the ‘Living Well Living Better’ budget.

They will now be known as ‘community partnerships.’ Each of the four forums, covering Bacup, Rawtenstall, Haslingden and Whitworth, will have access to this budget and can apply for grants up to £500 for local projects.

Councillors welcomed the change, which they say will improve engagement between residents and the council.

The forums were initially set up in 2014.

They have now become informal meetings and councillors say the new name will reflect this.

Councillor Andrew Walmsley, portfolio holder for resources, said: “I welcome that we’re looking to strengthen the neighbourhood forums.

“I think they play a really important part in engagement with communities.”
