Stu­dents star at dis­abil­ity swim gala

TOR View Com­mu­nity High School pupils rep­re­sented Team Rossendale with dis­tinc­tion at the SPAR Lan­cashire School Games Dis­abil­ity Swim­ming Gala.

The Haslingden school’s stu­dents landed a haul of eight medals - three gold, two sil­ver and three bronze - at Salt Ayre Leisure Cen­tre in Lan­caster.

Among win­ners were Jake Schofield in the Key Stage Three boys 25m front crawl and Harry Charles, who struck gold in the Key Stage Three 50m front crawl event.

Also cel­e­brat­ing was Lia Vick­ers who se­cured bronze in the Key Stage Three girls 25m front crawl.

Through­out the day, chil­dren also had the op­por­tu­nity to try wheel­chair bas­ket­ball and hand­ball taster ses­sions.

Nathan Bibby, school games or­gan­iser for Rossendale, said: “Con­grat­u­la­tions to every­one who man­aged to se­cure them­selves a medal from Rossendale this year. The games would also not be pos­si­ble with­out the sup­port of the young sports lead­ers who vol­un­teer.”

More than 3,500 chil­dren from schools across Lan­cashire’s 15 dis­tricts are cur­rently bat­tling it out for a place at the county fi­nals in Black­pool later this year. ●● Harry Charles from Tor View Com­mu­nity School win­ning the 25m boys race
