Students star at disability swim gala
TOR View Community High School pupils represented Team Rossendale with distinction at the SPAR Lancashire School Games Disability Swimming Gala.
The Haslingden school’s students landed a haul of eight medals - three gold, two silver and three bronze - at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre in Lancaster.
Among winners were Jake Schofield in the Key Stage Three boys 25m front crawl and Harry Charles, who struck gold in the Key Stage Three 50m front crawl event.
Also celebrating was Lia Vickers who secured bronze in the Key Stage Three girls 25m front crawl.
Throughout the day, children also had the opportunity to try wheelchair basketball and handball taster sessions.
Nathan Bibby, school games organiser for Rossendale, said: “Congratulations to everyone who managed to secure themselves a medal from Rossendale this year. The games would also not be possible without the support of the young sports leaders who volunteer.”
More than 3,500 children from schools across Lancashire’s 15 districts are currently battling it out for a place at the county finals in Blackpool later this year. ●● Harry Charles from Tor View Community School winning the 25m boys race
