Move to demolish house

Rossendale Free Press - - News -

DEVELOPERS have got the green light to demolish a detached house - and replace it with up to nine new ones.

Outline planning permission was granted for the plans for Hawthorne House in Edenfield with a single access road to be built from Rochdale Road.

Developers had originally hoped for additional road access from Hawthorne Avenue, but removed this from the application after objections from residents.

All seven members voted in favour of the proposals at the development control committee meeting.

While a full application will still need to be submitted, outline permission has been granted.

The detached house sits on vast grounds and contains several protected species of trees.

John Holt, architect and agent, assured the committee that all of these would be retained as part of any development.

He said: “This is a relatively modest proposal which would provide much needed housing in a highly sustainable location.”
