ABEAUTY salon owner has thanked customers and neighbours for their kindness after the business reopened months after being ravaged by a ‘devastating’ fire.

Helen Coates Beauty Salon, on Burnley Road, Crawshawbooth, is now fully open for business - after the blaze caused the salon to close.

Helen Varnom, who has owned the salon for four years, said the accidental fire on February 10 had left her heartbroken.

She said: “I was inconsolable when I saw the damage.

“The whole place was devastated and it was our livelihoods at stake.

“All the equipment was in there and the whole premises had been badly smoke-damaged.

“We had no option but to temporarily close and it left us all heartbroken and unable to work.”

Helen said an external electrical fault in the lower ground floor during business hours caused the premises to be evacuated, and led to extensive damage to that area, with the rest of the building badly affected by smoke.

Firefighters were called to the scene after quickthinking beauticians Amy Nunn and Lauren Kempson calmly took charge of the situation.

They evacuated clients to safety and raised the alarm.

Helen added: “I was extremely grateful and very proud of Amy and Lauren for their professionalism and bravery in what was a very distressing situation.

“The damage has taken more than three months to repair, but I’m more than happy with the result.

“The salon has been returned back to its original state.

“I wanted it to get that welcoming ambience back and I think we’ve done it.”

Helen described her staff as ‘absolutely fantastic’ and thanked her customers for their support and patience while the work was being done.

She said: “I’m also very grateful to the local businesses for their continued support and never ending kindness when the incident happened - especially Lorraine’s Hair Salon next door.

“We are so excited to have the salon re-opened and are extremely positive about the future.

“This is the time for us to move forward and we are introducing a new Aesthetics Clinic offering a wide range of new treatments including wrinkle reductions and Dermal lip fillers.”
