Mayor’s column

IT was a great honour and privilege to be voted as Mayor of Rossendale for the municipal year 2018-19 by my fellow councillors. Thank you.

My biggest thank you goes to the residents of Worsley ward who have put their trust in me for the next four years. I promise to represent all Rossendale residents with pride and dignity.

I was elected as a councillor to represent Worsley ward for the first time eight years ago and although I am looking forward to a very busy year visiting many events including schools and many other organisations in the Valley, I will still be available to carry out my daily duties and promises as a local councillor. Please do not hesitate to contact me.

It was a very emotional and memorable evening at mayor-making as five generations of my family were there to support me, the eldest being in her 80s, the youngest just eight. My first venue I attended was World Orienteering Day at Marl Pits. What a delight it was to see children enjoying themselves learning new skills.
