Leaders in a dramatic run chase

Rossendale Free Press - - Sports -

5 and Andy Holt produced some smart footwork to kick the ball onto the wickets to run out Barden for 12. Read skipper Andy Turner produced some lusty blows late on to finish unbeaten on 54 and post a challenging 198 from their 45 overs.

Geoff Allen and Zain opened up for Stacksteads and produced a solid platform, reaching 41 before Zain was bowled by left arm spinner Bennett for 25.

This brought Holt to the crease who batted sensibly alongside the experienced Allen. The pair were watchful, whilst looking to punish any loose bowling and managed to find enough boundaries to keep in touch with the required rate. Allen reached his 50 then started to cut loose and smashed several boundaries to the mid-wicket area to knock the stuffing out of the Read bowlers.

Allen was eventually dismissed for 78 from 102 balls as he was caught on the mid-wicket boundary off the bowling of Barden. Allen had taken Stacky within 46 of the target and new batsman Ansar rapidly reduced that target smashing six boundaries in an unbeaten 31 from 13 deliveries. Holt fell for 42 with just two runs required for victory, skying to cover again off Barden, allowing Ellis Hussey to smash the winning boundary.

An excellent performance from the whole team, man of the match shared between the economical Dawson and the evergreen Allen.
