Majorettes to lead lantern procession

Rossendale Free Press - - News -

MAJORETTES will lead a spectacular lantern display procession.

The Light up the Valley Lantern Procession will leave Toll Bar Mill in Newchurch Road, Stacksteads at 6pm on Saturday, October 27, and make its way to Stacksteads Riverside Park via the Rose ‘n’ Bowl.

The parade is organised by Stacksteads Countryside Park Group (SCPG). Chairman Susan Hayhurst praised lead artist Ruth Evans and her son Felix, who have run free lantern-making workshops in the build up to the event.

She said: “It was especially nice when they coincided with the Rossendale Art Trail and we had lots of extra people calling into the mill and learning all about the lantern procession.”

There will be spare lanterns available to be carried along the route, led by the newly formed Rossendale Drum Majorettes.

The parade will go around Stacksteads Recreation Ground, following the riverside path and into The Glade.

The event is funded by Reaps Moss Community Fund, SCPG and Rossendale Communities Fund. Rossendale Drum Majorettes are looking for donations for a Christmas fundraising raffle. Visit their Facebook page.
