Can­cer team raises more than £18,000

A COM­MIT­TEE is cel­e­brat­ing af­ter its fundrais­ing ef­forts helped raise more than £18,000 for Can­cer Re­search UK.

The Can­cer Re­search UK Bacup com­mit­tee raised the to­tal in the first 10 months of the year to part-fund re­search into per­son­alised treat­ment for pan­cre­atic can­cer.

Shirley Adams, chair­per­son of the Bacup Com­mit­tee, said they are ‘so pleased’ to have raised the sum for life-sav­ing re­search. She added: “We’re con­fi­dent that we are on track to meet our over­all tar­get. Our teams have re­ally em­braced the chal­lenge with pas­sion and cre­ativ­ity and we are grate­ful to each and ev­ery one of them for their sup­port.”

Fundrais­ing ac­tiv­i­ties this year have in­cluded quiz nights, a spring fair, and in-store col­lec­tions.

The an­nual Christ­mas Fair will be held on Sun­day, De­cem­ber 1 at Cen­tral Methodist Church, Burn­ley Road, Bacup, from 10am to noon. Ad­mis­sion for adults is £1 and chil­dren 50p with cof­fee and mince pies. Stalls will in­clude hand-made gifts and a tom­bola.
