Flytippers are casting gloom

-

WHERE’S summer gone? For weeks in lockdown, we enjoyed wonderful weather - but as soon as we were allowed out, it’s seemed to do nothing but rain.

But much as the wet weather is a disappointing development, it pales into insignificance at the sense of sadness when I see yet more flytipping.

Just a few hundred yards from the Duckworth Clough tip at the weekend, I saw a mattress dumped in a verge along with various other household waste.

Do people go out in the dead of night to do this so they don’t get caught?

And is it really so hard to wait until the tip opens to go and drop off your rubbish?

Rossendale Council does amazing work trying to catch the culprits, but it seems an impossible job when morons - and I think morons is the right word - think it’s ok to empty their bedrooms on to grass verges.

In a world where we’ve all worked together to try and defeat coronavirus, it seems sad that old, selfish habits are coming through again.
