RW: It looked like a bit of a risk to switch to sevens with Team GB after a season of 15s, but it paid off at the Olympic Games in Rio… James: If you look at the big players who had the year to try to make it, like Quade Cooper and Bryan Habana, and they couldn’t make an impression, I was pretty proud of what I achieved in eight weeks. Jonathan: Go on, just blow your own trumpet!! Seriously, I admire him because he always backs himself. That’s what he does in the 15-a-side game and he’s done brilliantly since I’ve been away. RW: What stands out from your Rio experience? Jonathan: I’ll just sit back, I’ve heard it all before. I know what’s coming. James: It was mental, just totally surreal. We saw Usain Bolt at the canteen, and chatted to Justin Rose and Andy Murray. Murray gets stick for being dour but he was a good laugh. Playing-wise, Simon Amor is a brilliant coach and I was with a really good group of boys, but Fiji were awesome (in the final) and deserved to win.

It was pleasing to get a few compliments on Twitter saying my game was going well. That’s what excites me, performing in front of thousands of people.
