Fitness for centres

Rugby World - - CONTENTS -

INSIDE- CENTRES must add the rough to the smooth – they have to be a physical presence but show strong distribution skills. It is now expected that pace, power and defensive resilience are all part of any top 12’s arsenal.

For that reason, inside- centres should work on their ability to step hard into contact as well as a fend; they should be able to push the ball out of reach of defenders and offl oad to a support runner. To the left are some exercises that can help a 12 power their top half through a tackle and work the arms free – collated by our pals at Performance Pro Gym in London.

We also have a fi tness challenge that will tire the muscles and get you breathing hard – made worse by a team-mate getting a free ride!
