THIS MONTH RESIDENCY

Rugby World - - RUGBY RANT -

From late 2020, players will need to reside in a country for five years to change their national allegiance. Gus Pichot (right) was big on this, but what do you think… @ heywoodwhite It should be ten years. And why wait until 2020? George Garrett Whilst it will not stop all of the issues surrounding younger players in particular, this will begin to help those being robbed of their national talent pools.

Anthony Chellingworth Should only apply to Tier One and Two. lower-tier nations need expats while developing the game.

@ totnesredgreen There should be no residency rule – only birthplace & immediate ancestry should apply.

@ dan_ weasel Not perfect but something had to be done to help teams like Fiji keep hold of their players & maintain integrity of Test teams.

@SeanElliot6335 yes, it is a good thing. It should be seven or eight years.

Andrew Byrne It was the right thing to do but it’s not long enough. Players will be targeted at a younger age. Scoop them up at 18 and they will be qualified by age 23.
