Against Saracens, Niki Goneva (Falcons) dummied touching the ball down in his in-goal area, touching it on his foot, then ran the length to score – only to be called back for an action “not in the spirit of the game”.
His action was within the laws. We praise a great dummy pass or sidestep, both actions that gain an advantage by deceiving an opponent. I don’t see how these differ from Goneva’s.
He wasn’t acting outside the spirit of the game but in a spirit of adventure in which the game should be played.
