BRUNEL Univer­sity mid­dle-dis­tance run­ner She­layna OskanClarke is pre­par­ing for a big week­end at the IAAF World Cham­pi­onships in Lon­don, writes Max Hall.

The Wind­sor, Slough, Eton and Houn­slow run­ner will be run­ning in the 800m to­mor­row night from 7.25pm, with the semi-fi­nals at 7.35pm on Fri­day and the fi­nal at 8.10pm on Sun­day.

The south Lon­don­der took silver at the Euro­pean In­door Cham­pi­onships in Bel­grade this year in a time of 2.00.39.

And the 27-year-old track star set an out­door per­sonal best of 1.58.86 in Bei­jing two years ago be­fore run­ning 1.58.99 to come fifth in the fi­nal.

Oskan-Clarke was elim­i­nated in the semi-fi­nal in Rio last year, with a time of 1.59.45 and will be hop­ing to go at least one stage fur­ther at the Olympic Sta­dium this week­end.

Hilling­don Ath­let­ics Club’s un­der-13/15 team have won pro­mo­tion to the UK Youth De­vel­op­ment League by win­ning their divi­sion. Hilling­don won each of their three league meet­ings with a full team in ev­ery event and fin­ished in style with a record score of more than 600 points in their fi­nal out­ing.

Hilling­don Triathlon Club’s Clark Scholfield and Dave Knight came sec­ond and third, re­spec­tively, at Hare­field in the sec­ond meeting of a three-match se­ries won by 17-year-old Op­tima Rac­ing Team’s Gre­gory Atkins.

The women had a clean sweep with Caro­line Whit­taker first home – and 14th over­all – ahead of club­mates Caro­line Green­away and Boo Smith.
