LESS than half of pri­mary school leavers in Run­corn and Widnes reached the ex­pected stan­dard in the three core sub­jects ac­cord­ing to this year’s test re­sults.

Data pub­lished by the Depart­ment For Ed­u­ca­tion (DfE) re­vealed that 47% of Year 6 pupils achieved the re­quired score in read­ing, writ­ing and maths.

Boys per­formed worse than girls, with just 42% of males reach­ing the ex­pected stan­dard, com­pared with 51% of their fe­male class­mates.

The over­all suc­cess rates in Hal­ton lagged be­hind the North West and na­tional state school av­er­ages of 53% and 54% re­spec­tively.
