FEARS OVER TRUMP’S ‘NUCLEAR RACE’ CALL

Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News - - Yourviews - Jonathan Bartley Green Party co-leader

To hear the president-elect of America calling for a ‘nuclear arms race’ is deeply concerning.

Nuclear weapons not only fail to make us more secure, but increase the dangers we’re facing.

Trump’s determination to not only keep nukes but to ‘strengthen and expand’ them sends a dangerous message to the rest of the world that security requires the acquisition of weapons of mass destruction.

At a time of increased tension this is the complete opposite of what he should be doing.

For nuclear policy Trump should look to Europe, where just two months ago the European Parliament voted in favour of a historic resolution to prohibit nuclear weapons.

That is the kind of leadership global peace needs.
