Council considers pub sale
TOWN hall chiefs have approved the sale of Halton Council’s freehold ownership of a vacant Runcorn pub.
Executive board members gave the green light for the disposal of its interest in The Croft alehouse on Halton Lodge Avenue but details of who to and for how much remain unpublished.
The meeting was off limits to the press and public.
According to Halton Council, this was to prevent details of the deal from prejudicing future commercial dealings.
Minutes of the session said agents for the buyer had expressed an interest in developing the site for residential use as assisted living accom- ● modation.
The Croft pub has been closed for about two years.
It was one of three boozers whose freeholds were owned by Halton Council and revealed by a Taxpayers’ Alliance study, the others being The Old Transporter in The Brow and The Fiddlers Three in Castlefields.
