Readers blast kids’ play area vandals

READERS have slammed those who torched swings at a children’s play area in Widnes.

Last week, the Weekly News reported that Kingsway’s Cllr Andrea Wall had blasted the ‘mindless destruction’ caused by firebugs off Dundalk Road.

Cllr Wall said that a blue bin was set alight underneath swings at a play area which had ‘melted’ into the soft surface underneath.

The Labour councillor later organised a clean-up with volunteers which included both the damaged play area and surrounding fields, with bags of litter collected.

After the story was published last week, readers took to the Weekly News Facebook page to express their views on the incident.

Grace Humphreys said: “I take my daughter to this park. A friend told me about the vandalism this week. The field area is also disrespected, full of litter and used for fly tipping.”

Glyn Davies said: “We has superb grass tennis courts on that very spot many years ago, never ever had any trouble. How times have changed, very sad.”

Kevin Pearce said: “This kind of thing is only going to happen more and more as the council budgets are cut.”

Cody Millie said: “Disgraceful, disgusting, disrespectful, mindless idiots!!!! They do not deserve to have anything!!!!

“They don’t respect anyone or anything !!!! These idiots who are doing this!!!!!

“Not surprised at how they can act in such a disgrace way!!!!”

Michael Kelly added: “They shouldn’t have to spend thousands on CCTV because a minority of scumbag vandals think that setting parks on fire is fun. People need to share these headlines and I’m sure the power of social media will get the vandals caught.”

Kayleigh Marie said: “They should be found out n made to get a job to pay for it or make the parents pay for the damage” ●
