Pavilions strike back to secure victory over Grapes in close encounter

THE 2017 season in the Runcorn & District Bowling Associatio­n is now up and running.

Section One saw last season’s runners-up, Pavilions ‘A’, travel to take on thirdplace­d Grapes ‘A’.

And it was the Halton Road outfit who got off to a flying start winning the first four games.

However, the Pavilions came back strongly running out the winners 150-146. The best winner on the night was Pavilions’ Graham Oliver who won his match 21-8.

Kingswood ‘A’ took on Hazel Pear and triumphed 168-95.

Mike Forster and Joan Nicholas led the way both winning 21-5.

Newcomers to Section One, Kingsley ‘A’, faced Norton Arms with the Arms winning the game 147-125.

Gareth Dimelow with a 21-2 success was the outstandin­g winner on the night for Norton.

In Section Two, War Memorial started the season with a 163-133 victory over Helsby ‘D’. Dave Brown’s 21-7 was the best winner for the Memorial. The best reply for Helsby came from Mark Clements (21-18).

Willow Brook also got off to a good start despite having to move green from Ivy Street to Rock Park.

The Brook took on a strong Overton team and ran out the winners 155-140.

Rolly Ireland (21-8) led the way for the Brook. The best reply for Overton was registered by Eddie and Marion Cater – 21-13 and 21-16 respective­ly.

Promoted Norton Arms ‘B’ were up against Kingsley ‘B’ and ran out the winners 154-123. Neil Scott’s 21-3 triumph led the way for Norton.

The early pacesetter­s in Section Three are Grapes ‘B’ after a superb 164-111 victory at Pavilions ‘C’.

Leading the way for Grapes were Lea Davies and Graham Reid who both won 21-8 and Alan Massey who triumphed 21-9. The best reply for the Ladies was recorded by Doreen Goodwin who won 21-17.

Egerton ‘B’ took on Frodsam Cons and were victorious 155-119. The best winner on the night was Ian Joyce (21-9).

Newcomers to the League, Crowton, faced fellow novices Manley with the latter the victors 142-111.

Linda Hough (21-3) and Derek Thompson (21-5) sparkled for Manley while Mike Price (21-9) had the best reply for Crowton.
