MP Twigg recovering after pneumonia fight
● HALTON MP Derek Twigg is recovering from a bout of pneumonia.
Cllr Andrea Wall, constituency assistant to the Labour MP, said Mr Twigg has been told to take complete rest and as such there may be a delay in replies for constituency matters.
She said it was the first time in 20 years he had been needed to take time off due to illness.
He had been treated with antibiotics and is now expected to return to full action in about a fortnight.
Wellwishers expressed their hopes for a speedy recovery on the Halton constituency Labour Party Facebook page.
Pneumonia is a bacterial infection in the lung.
Symptoms can include coughing, fever, sweating and shivering.
According to NHS guidance, mild pneumonia can be treated at home with rest, antibiotics and by drinking plenty of fluids but hospital may be required in severe cases.
Cllr Wall said: “Derek is recovering well but pneumonia can take a while to fully get over.
“He is still handling constituency matters, that never stops for Derek.
“However, he is having to take some rest to ensure that he recovers from the pneumonia fully and as quickly as possible.
“He has had many well wishes from his constituents with many commenting on how much he has helped them personally.”
Writing on Facebook, social media user Annemarie Dunn Roberts said: “Get well soon! You’ve always answered any query I’ve had. Take care and get ● MP Derek Twigg in the Commons, and, right, Cllr Andrea Wall better – we need you fighting our corner!”
Jenny Cross said: “Get well soon. I had a problem many years ago and no-one helped.
“I got in touch with Derek and my serious situation was sorted immediately. I’ll always be grateful xx.”
