HALTON residents are being warned of the dangers posed by bogus callers.

A Cheshire police alert sent out by PC Christopher Knight of Widnes Local Policing Unit said a report has been received of a cold caller visiting homes in the town.

Police are advising residents to not have any work carried out by cold callers as the risks are ‘high’.

Officers say prices could be excessive, end up costing more than first agreed, and may not be of a quality standard.

The alert said: “If you need work carried out we advise that you ask friends and family to recommend a bona-fide business.

“Please do not let strangers in to your property. Please inform neighbours of this, particularly elderly and vulnerable.

“If you see cold callers in the area, or have any information that may relate to this please phone 101, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. If you feel pressured by cold callers please close the door and call the police on 999.”
