SciBar talk on rail tech­nol­ogy

THE lat­est meet­ing of Widnes SciBar will in­volve a speaker help­ing to over­see projects at a new rail tech­nol­ogy cen­tre in the town.

Al­stom UK’s man­ag­ing director of trains and mod­erni­sa­tion, Mike Hulme, will be at the Hill­crest Ho­tel on Cron­ton Lane on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 6.

The Hale­bank fa­cil­ity was of­fi­cially opened by Lord Prior Of Bramp­ton at the end of June and spans 13,000sq m of space.

The first project tak­ing place at the fa­cil­ity is re­paint­ing the 56-strong fleet of Class 390 tilt­ing Pen­dolino trains, which are used by Vir­gin on the West Coast Main Line.

SciBar or­gan­iser Bob Roach said: “As part of our monthly talks about sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy, the Friends Of Cat­a­lyst will be very pleased to wel­come Mike and to hear about the work now be­ing done and about the pos­si­bil­i­ties for the fu­ture.” The SciBar will start at 7.30pm. It is open to any­one in­ter­ested in the topic or in hear­ing about sci­ence and tech­nol­ogy in gen­eral in a re­laxed set­ting.
