SciBar talk on rail technology
THE latest meeting of Widnes SciBar will involve a speaker helping to oversee projects at a new rail technology centre in the town.
Alstom UK’s managing director of trains and modernisation, Mike Hulme, will be at the Hillcrest Hotel on Cronton Lane on Wednesday, September 6.
The Halebank facility was officially opened by Lord Prior Of Brampton at the end of June and spans 13,000sq m of space.
The first project taking place at the facility is repainting the 56-strong fleet of Class 390 tilting Pendolino trains, which are used by Virgin on the West Coast Main Line.
SciBar organiser Bob Roach said: “As part of our monthly talks about science and technology, the Friends Of Catalyst will be very pleased to welcome Mike and to hear about the work now being done and about the possibilities for the future.” The SciBar will start at 7.30pm. It is open to anyone interested in the topic or in hearing about science and technology in general in a relaxed setting.
Entry costs £2. ●
