Mill Brow grind out tri­umph over Welling­ton as Pow­ell wins de­cider

ON Fri­day night in the Widnes & District Darts League, the 2017-18 Win­ter League com­menced.

In Divi­sion One, Goldmine against Widnes Cricket Club, lost the first game to the Cricket Club’s Rob Mor­ris.

The Goldmine then lev­elled through Gaz John­son, be­fore tak­ing the lead with a win from Terry Roach with eight darts in the sec­ond leg.

The rally con­tin­ued as the Goldmine upped their game, tak­ing the next four en­coun­ters through Sean Bell and Terry Roach (12 darts), Peter Mul­lally and Tim Hunt (18 darts), Barry Noo­nan and Phil Cor­less (15 darts) and Jimmy Holden (18 darts) seal­ing a match vic­tory.

The Cricket Club stopped the rout as Dean Mor­ris and Andy Atkin gave them the last two con­tests to put some re­spectabil­ity on the fi­nal score­line.

Hal­ton Sta­dium, fac­ing Widnes Bowl­ing Club, con­ceded the first game to the Bowler’s Alan Clark.

John Kilkenny then lev­elled for the Sta­dium with 15 darts in the first leg. The Bowler then se­cured the next four con­tests via Tex Bowles (12 darts in the sec­ond leg), Alan Clark and Alex McGill, Joe Batty and Scott Grady and Tommy Robertson and Tex Bowles seal­ing their tri­umph.

The Sta­dium but did not let the Bowler have it all their own way, as wins from Alan Magee and Colin Rigby (18 darts in the first leg) added to the their tally.

Dave Ger­rard then claimed the fi­nal con­test wrap­ping up a 6-3 vic­tory for Widnes Bowl­ing Club.

The Mill Brow SC, against the Welling­ton Inn, con­ceded the first game to the Welling­ton’s Barry High­field.

The Brow’s Carl Hack­ney then took the sec­ond game to make it 1-1. The Welling­ton went ahead again, this time through John Glover.

But again, the Brow were on their tails, with a win from their open­ing pair, Ray Linger and Paul Linger (17 darts in the third leg).

This was fast be­com­ing a tag match as Karl and Ste Whit­field’s win with a 19 dart leg in the next game, was soon can­celled out by a vic­tory from the Brow’s Dave Pow­ell and Carl Hack­ney with 18 darts in the third leg.

A fur­ther win apiece from the Welling­ton’s An­thony Hall (18 darts) and the Brow’s Paul Linger could not sep­a­rate the sides as the score was 4-4.

The Mill Brow SC’s Dave Pow­ell then stepped up to the oche and re­solved the out­come as he took the fi­nal game with legs of 19 and 15 darts.

The Mill­field, against Simms Cross In­sti­tute, se­cured the first game through Danny Wood with a 17-dart first leg. Tony Green then lev­elled for the Stute.

The Mill­field then took the lead again via Ian Wall (18 darts first leg) only to see the Stute’s open­ing pair, Ged McPart­land and Dave Batty level the score, in­clud­ing an 18 dart sec­ond leg. Both teams were equally de­ter­mined as a fur­ther win apiece from the Mill­field’s Danny Wood and Ian Wall and the Stute’s Andy Ab­bott and Glynn Owen (16 darts first leg) kept the score level at 3-3.

The Mill­field then surged ahead, with two in a row from Mike Howard (18 darts) and Billy Fox giv­ing them the vi­tal fifth point and the match. The Stute’s Andy Ab­bott then took the fi­nal game with legs of 19 and 13 darts.
