A fruit­ful out­come for Grapes as they edge out Helsby ‘A’ in tight clash

IN the Run­corn & District Bowl­ing As­so­ci­a­tion last week, Sec­tion One table­top­pers Pavil­ions ‘A’ trav­elled to take on Hal­ton RBL ‘A’ and re­turned vic­to­ri­ous af­ter post­ing a fine 153-118 suc­cess.

The best win was Dave Wil­liams’ 21-10 vic­tory.

Tigers Head, in sec­ond place, vis­ited Eger­ton Me­mo­rial and recorded a su­perb 160-108 win.

Peter Il­lidge and John Brooker (both 21-5) and Kevin Dun­calf (21-8) led the way for Tigers. Phil El­lis’s 21-13 win was the best re­ply for Eger­ton.

Third-placed Grapes took on Helsby ‘A’ and in a hard-fought en­counter man­aged to come out on top by 146-142.

Ryan Dob­son’s 21-13 was the best win for Grapes.

Re­ply­ing for Helsby were Bruce Gar­ner and Jim Walker, who both won 21-11.

Hazel Pear moved into fourth place af­ter a 161-130 vic­tory over Nor­ton Arms.

Joe Tomkin­son and Paul Had­dock, who both won 21-10, im­pressed for the Pear. Nor­ton’s best re­ply was reg­is­tered by Phil Hughes who tri­umphed 21-18.

Sec­tion Two pace­set­ters Sub­scrip­tion took on War Me­mo­rial and ran out 152-124 win­ners.

Lead­ing the way for the lead­ers were Alan Guest (21-5) and John Owen (21-9).

Mike Field’s 21-13 win was the best re­ply for War Me­mo­rial.

Sec­ond-placed Pavil­ions ‘B’ took on Over­ton in fourth and tri­umphed 166-121.

Shin­ing for the Lions were Stephen Bate (21-5) and Lew Dar­ling­ton (21-9). Mark Clein’s 21-19 win was the only re­ply for Over­ton.

Third-placed Kingswood ‘B’ took on Kings­ley ‘B’ and eased to a 148-92 suc­cess.

Kingswood had three play­ers win­ning to sin­gle fig­ures – Dave Ryan (21-2), Graham Don­nelly (21-6) and Bill Mack (21-9). The best replies for Kings­ley came from John Smith and Peter Smith who both won 21-11.

Top of Sec­tion Three Hal­ton RBL ‘B’ trav­elled to face Pavil­ions ‘C’ and came away with a 143-131 vic­tory.

Peter Hol­lett (21-3) was the best win­ner for the Le­gion.

Doreen Good­win’s 21-7 win was the best re­ply for Pavil­ions.

Sec­ond-placed Manley have a game in hand on the lead­ers and they took on third-placed Eger­ton B and recorded a 155-111 suc­cess.

Mar­cus Cas­sidy (21-7) and Phil Cot­tega (21-9) led the way for Manley with Les Mar­shall’s 21-11 win the best re­sponse for Eger­ton.

Goshawk moved into fourth spot af­ter a 148-123 tri­umph against Rock Park. Marge Wor­rall (21-9) and Peter Robin­son (21-10) shone for Goshawk. Joan Fletcher and Ann Whitby (both 21-14) were in form for Rock Park. ● En­try forms for the Tu­dor Pairs have been sent out to club sec­re­taries. The com­pe­ti­tion starts on Mon­day, Septem­ber 11, Tuesday 12, Thurs­day 14 and Mon­day 18. The semi-fi­nal will take place on Tuesday 19 and the fi­nal on Thurs­day 21. The com­pe­ti­tion will take place at War Me­mo­rial.
