A fruitful outcome for Grapes as they edge out Helsby ‘A’ in tight clash
IN the Runcorn & District Bowling Association last week, Section One tabletoppers Pavilions ‘A’ travelled to take on Halton RBL ‘A’ and returned victorious after posting a fine 153-118 success.
The best win was Dave Williams’ 21-10 victory.
Tigers Head, in second place, visited Egerton Memorial and recorded a superb 160-108 win.
Peter Illidge and John Brooker (both 21-5) and Kevin Duncalf (21-8) led the way for Tigers. Phil Ellis’s 21-13 win was the best reply for Egerton.
Third-placed Grapes took on Helsby ‘A’ and in a hard-fought encounter managed to come out on top by 146-142.
Ryan Dobson’s 21-13 was the best win for Grapes.
Replying for Helsby were Bruce Garner and Jim Walker, who both won 21-11.
Hazel Pear moved into fourth place after a 161-130 victory over Norton Arms.
Joe Tomkinson and Paul Haddock, who both won 21-10, impressed for the Pear. Norton’s best reply was registered by Phil Hughes who triumphed 21-18.
Section Two pacesetters Subscription took on War Memorial and ran out 152-124 winners.
Leading the way for the leaders were Alan Guest (21-5) and John Owen (21-9).
Mike Field’s 21-13 win was the best reply for War Memorial.
Second-placed Pavilions ‘B’ took on Overton in fourth and triumphed 166-121.
Shining for the Lions were Stephen Bate (21-5) and Lew Darlington (21-9). Mark Clein’s 21-19 win was the only reply for Overton.
Third-placed Kingswood ‘B’ took on Kingsley ‘B’ and eased to a 148-92 success.
Kingswood had three players winning to single figures – Dave Ryan (21-2), Graham Donnelly (21-6) and Bill Mack (21-9). The best replies for Kingsley came from John Smith and Peter Smith who both won 21-11.
Top of Section Three Halton RBL ‘B’ travelled to face Pavilions ‘C’ and came away with a 143-131 victory.
Peter Hollett (21-3) was the best winner for the Legion.
Doreen Goodwin’s 21-7 win was the best reply for Pavilions.
Second-placed Manley have a game in hand on the leaders and they took on third-placed Egerton B and recorded a 155-111 success.
Marcus Cassidy (21-7) and Phil Cottega (21-9) led the way for Manley with Les Marshall’s 21-11 win the best response for Egerton.
Goshawk moved into fourth spot after a 148-123 triumph against Rock Park. Marge Worrall (21-9) and Peter Robinson (21-10) shone for Goshawk. Joan Fletcher and Ann Whitby (both 21-14) were in form for Rock Park. ● Entry forms for the Tudor Pairs have been sent out to club secretaries. The competition starts on Monday, September 11, Tuesday 12, Thursday 14 and Monday 18. The semi-final will take place on Tuesday 19 and the final on Thursday 21. The competition will take place at War Memorial.
