Pupils mark Roald Dahl Day

YOUNG peo­ple from across Halton en­joyed an af­ter­noon of ex­per­i­ments on what would have been Roald Dahl’s birth­day with events at the bor­ough’s li­braries.

Halton Bor­ough Coun­cil staff or­gan­ised a host of free fiz­zwhizzing ex­per­i­men­ta­tions for more than 40 young­sters.

The events at Widnes and Halton Lea Li­braries in­cluded young peo­ple mak­ing bal­loon rock­ets, ex­pe­ri­enc­ing if it was pos­si­ble to blow up bal­loons with pop­ping candy, be­ing amazed by op­ti­cal il­lu­sions, colour­ing in pic­tures and find­ing out their Roald Dahl names.

A coun­cil spokesman said: “If you missed out, don’t worry.

“Halton Li­brary Ser­vices runs lots of free af­ter school ac­tiv­i­ties for par­ents to bring their chil­dren along to.

“Kids can get cre­ative and build cre­ate new in­ven­tions, whilst mak­ing friends and learn­ing new skills.

“All li­brary events are free of ● charge and drop in.”

Code clubs are hosted on Tues­days from 3.45pm to 5pm at both Widnes and Halton Lea Li­braries, where chil­dren can get to grips with com­puter pro­gram­ming. Lego clubs are also held at both fa­cil­i­ties through­out the week.

This in­cludes on Tues­days from 5pm to 7pm at both Widnes and Halton Lea, Mon­day from 3.30pm to 5pm at Halton Lea and Thurs­days at the same times in Widnes.
