Corpy bag the crown in decider

Runcorn & Widnes Weekly News - - Theguide -

ON Friday night in the Widnes & District Darts League the Mill Brow SC RTB League continued with round 28 being played.

In Division Two, Corpy Club were at home to Birchfield in a title decider.

The match started badly for the hosts as they conceded the first three games to the Birchfield’s Matty Fisher, Dave Jones and Dave Herley.

However, the destiny of the championship was very much back in the mix as the Corpy rallied with a vengeance taking all three pairs games to level the contest as Alan Moran & Mark O’Connor (15 darts), Dave Jackson & Jeff Thompson, Dave Pickles & Alan Pennington were all successful in their clashes.

With three singles games remaining in an exciting showdown, the Corpy hit the front for the first time through Dave Pickles.

And the Birchfield’s title dreams evaporated minutes later as Mark O’Connor put the Corpy in an unassailable position at 5-3.

With the title now safely in the bag, Jeff Thompson started the celebrations by taking the final game for the Corpy to put the final seal a memorable 6-3 triumph.

Cricketers Arms at home to the Mersey Hotel saw the Mersey’s Paul Cotty, Danny Shipley and Rob Cotty take the first three games.

The Cricketers Arms then pulled back a point with a win from their opening pair, Ian Connor & Owen Batty.

The Mersey widened the gap once again with a victory from Paul Cotty & Rob Cotty, putting them in a very good position.

However, the Cricketers Arms certainly had other ideas as four wins in succession on the oche from Paul Mason & Tony Ainsworth in the pairs followed by Graham Fenney, Brian Dwyer and Tony Ainsworth in the singles gave their side a famous 5-4 victory.
