PACE­SET­TERS in Sec­tion One of the Run­corn & Dis­trict Bowling As­so­ci­a­tion, Nor­ley, car­ried on where they left off the pre­vi­ous week with a su­perb 159-95 vic­tory at Norton Arms.

No fewer than four play­ers won their con­tests to sin­gle fig­ures – Ger­ald Merry (21-3), Fred Wor­rall (21-5), Barry El­lams (21-8) and Peter Il­lidge (21-9). Re­ply­ing for Norton were Phil Hughes (21-16) and Gareth Dimelow (21-17).

Sec­ond-placed Pavil­ions ‘A’ en­ter­tained Hal­ton RBL ‘A’ and ran out the win­ners 164-91.

Lead­ing the way for the Lions were cap­tain Neal Ocego (21-4), Pat Crowe (21-6) and Mark Furber (21-9). The only re­ply for the Le­gion came via Alan Den­nett’s 21-17 success.

Cas­tle SSC in third se­cured their first full house of the sea­son with a 168-76 vic­tory over Kingswood ‘A’.

Lead­ing from the front were John Gur­ney and Wil­liam Andrews who both won their games 21-2, Eric Web­ber (21-6) and Phil Scott (21-7).

Sec­tion Two ta­ble-top­pers Kings­ley ‘A’ trav­elled to take on new­com­ers Grapes ‘C’ and were vic­to­ri­ous 166-77.

No fewer than four play­ers won to sin­gle fig­ures.

Shin­ing in the spot­light was Dave Ewart (21-0) along with Derek Bell, Eric How­man and Robert Hill who all won 21-7. The only re­ply for the Grapes was recorded by Gary Whe­lan (21-19).

Man­ley moved up into third place af­ter a 152-101 vic­tory over War Me­mo­rial.

Phil Cot­tiga (21-4), Barry El­lis (21-7) and Mark Gil­son (21-8) led the way for the vic­to­ri­ous Man­ley side while re­ply­ing for War Me­mo­rial were Mike Couzens (21-12) and Den­nis Sharp (21-14).

Fourth-placed Kings­ley ‘B’ took on Subscription and just lost out 144-141 in a hard­fought en­counter.

Den­nis Rigby (21-6) and Don Bryn­ing (21-9) led the way for Subscription while the best re­ply for Kings­ley came from Robin Graham (21-12).

Lead­ers in Sec­tion Three, Rock Park, took on Frod­sham Cons but went down to a 135-128 de­feat.

Im­press­ing for the Cons in the en­counter were Mal Cle­worth (21-1) and Chris We­ston (21-7).

Re­ply­ing for the Park were Ann Whitby and Joan Fletcher (both 21-12).

Sec­ond-placed Pavil­ions ‘D’ made up ground on the lead­ers with a 151-107 vic­tory against Helsby ‘D’.

Mau­rice Melvin and Peter Dum­bill (both 21-6), Brian Peck (21-7) and Col­lette Bate (21-8) led the way for Pavil­ions.

Re­ply­ing for Helsby was Mike Clarke who won his game 21-12.

Third-placed Hal­ton ‘B’ took on Pavil­ions ‘C’ and were tri­umphant 135-115.

The best win­ner on the night for Hal­ton was young Kay­ley Welsh who won 21-7.
