Swimmers show great style at North West Regional Championships
HALTON Swimming Club had 10 swimmers representing them over the past three weekends at the Swim England North West Long Course Regional Championships which were held at the Manchester Aquatics Centre and Liverpool Aquatic Centre.
Ben Clayton brought the medals home for Halton claiming a gold in the 50m butterfly, a silver in the 200m individual medley and a bronze in the 100m breaststroke.
Ben also made the finals of the 50m breaststroke, 100m butterfly and the 100m freestyle finishing in fifth, fourth and seventh respectively. Personal best times came in the 50m butterfly, 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley and the ● 100m butterfly.
Swimming in the girls’ 13-year-old age group category was Sophie Buckley who competed in four events. She took part in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m breaststroke.
Sophie made the finals of the 50m and 100m freestyle finishing in fifth place in both events and clocked a new personal best time in the 50m event. Sophie also recorded a new personal best in the 100m breaststroke and finished just outside her best time in the 50m breaststroke.
Beth Howard-Hughes competed in the girls’ 11/12 age group swimming in five events. Beth registered new personal best times in the 200m and 400m freestyle, 200m backstroke and the 200m and 400m individual medley. Beth also produced a great swim in the 800m freestyle.
Libby Harrison competed in the 15-year-old age category, swimming in four events. Libby produced a new PB in the 100m breaststroke and the 100m and 200m backstroke. Libby also competed in the 50m breaststroke finishing just outside her previous best time.
Joshua Howard-Hughes competed in the 14-year-old age group and swam in eight events. Josh made the final of the 200m breaststroke where he finished sixth in a new PB. Josh swam brilliantly in all events and claimed numerous personal best times.
He swam particularly well in the 1500m and 400m freestyle, 400m individual medley, 100m and 200m backstroke, the 50m butterfly and 50m breaststroke.
Josh finished in the top eight in the 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and the 400m individual medley.
Alfie Mather competed in the 13-year-old age group and swam in the 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly events. Alfie produced personal best times in each event.
Daniel Buckley competed in the 16-year-old age group where he swam in the 50m and 100m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 50m and 100m breaststroke and the 50m freestyle. Daniel made the final of the 100m breaststroke where he finished fourth. Daniel also produced new personal best times in the 100m backstroke, 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly.
Claudio Mecklenbergh competed in the 14-year-old 50m breaststroke, finishing the race in a new personal best time whilst 17-year-old Ellie-Jo Hughes competed in the 100m backstroke and the 200m individual medley.
Samantha Moore competed in the 14-year-old 100m backstroke event where she swam brilliantly to clock a new personal best time.
