Swim­mers show great style at North West Re­gional Cham­pi­onships

HAL­TON Swim­ming Club had 10 swim­mers rep­re­sent­ing them over the past three week­ends at the Swim Eng­land North West Long Course Re­gional Cham­pi­onships which were held at the Manchester Aquat­ics Cen­tre and Liver­pool Aquatic Cen­tre.

Ben Clay­ton brought the medals home for Hal­ton claim­ing a gold in the 50m but­ter­fly, a sil­ver in the 200m in­di­vid­ual med­ley and a bronze in the 100m breast­stroke.

Ben also made the fi­nals of the 50m breast­stroke, 100m but­ter­fly and the 100m freestyle fin­ish­ing in fifth, fourth and sev­enth re­spec­tively. Per­sonal best times came in the 50m but­ter­fly, 50m back­stroke, 100m breast­stroke, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m in­di­vid­ual med­ley and the ● 100m but­ter­fly.

Swim­ming in the girls’ 13-year-old age group cat­e­gory was So­phie Buck­ley who com­peted in four events. She took part in the 50m and 100m freestyle and 50m and 100m breast­stroke.

So­phie made the fi­nals of the 50m and 100m freestyle fin­ish­ing in fifth place in both events and clocked a new per­sonal best time in the 50m event. So­phie also recorded a new per­sonal best in the 100m breast­stroke and fin­ished just out­side her best time in the 50m breast­stroke.

Beth Howard-Hughes com­peted in the girls’ 11/12 age group swim­ming in five events. Beth reg­is­tered new per­sonal best times in the 200m and 400m freestyle, 200m back­stroke and the 200m and 400m in­di­vid­ual med­ley. Beth also pro­duced a great swim in the 800m freestyle.

Libby Har­ri­son com­peted in the 15-year-old age cat­e­gory, swim­ming in four events. Libby pro­duced a new PB in the 100m breast­stroke and the 100m and 200m back­stroke. Libby also com­peted in the 50m breast­stroke fin­ish­ing just out­side her pre­vi­ous best time.

Joshua Howard-Hughes com­peted in the 14-year-old age group and swam in eight events. Josh made the final of the 200m breast­stroke where he fin­ished sixth in a new PB. Josh swam bril­liantly in all events and claimed nu­mer­ous per­sonal best times.

He swam par­tic­u­larly well in the 1500m and 400m freestyle, 400m in­di­vid­ual med­ley, 100m and 200m back­stroke, the 50m but­ter­fly and 50m breast­stroke.

Josh fin­ished in the top eight in the 1500m freestyle, 400m freestyle and the 400m in­di­vid­ual med­ley.

Al­fie Mather com­peted in the 13-year-old age group and swam in the 50m back­stroke and 50m but­ter­fly events. Al­fie pro­duced per­sonal best times in each event.

Daniel Buck­ley com­peted in the 16-year-old age group where he swam in the 50m and 100m back­stroke, 50m but­ter­fly, 50m and 100m breast­stroke and the 50m freestyle. Daniel made the final of the 100m breast­stroke where he fin­ished fourth. Daniel also pro­duced new per­sonal best times in the 100m back­stroke, 50m freestyle and 50m but­ter­fly.

Clau­dio Meck­len­bergh com­peted in the 14-year-old 50m breast­stroke, fin­ish­ing the race in a new per­sonal best time whilst 17-year-old Ellie-Jo Hughes com­peted in the 100m back­stroke and the 200m in­di­vid­ual med­ley.

Sa­man­tha Moore com­peted in the 14-year-old 100m back­stroke event where she swam bril­liantly to clock a new per­sonal best time.
