Sus­pect, 49, ac­cused of petrol sta­tion rob­bery

A RUN­CORN man has ap­peared in court in con­nec­tion with an at­tempted armed rob­bery at a petrol sta­tion.

An­thony Wain, 49, of Cre­ative Sup­port hos­tel on Hal­ton Lodge Av­enue, Run­corn, was charged fol­low­ing an alleged in­ci­dent at the BP garage on Thomas Jones Way near Bridge­wa­ter Ex­press­way on Tues­day, April 17.

Court pa­pers said Wain is ac­cused of hav­ing tried to rob some­one at the premises and was in pos­ses­sion of a sharply pointed bladed ar­ti­cle, namely a ‘large kitchen knife’.

The mat­ter was sent to Ch­ester Crown Court to be heard on July 4.

Wain was de­nied bail with his cus­tody time limit due to ex­pire on De­cem­ber 5.

A po­lice ap­peal was is­sued at the time of the alleged of­fence.

Res­i­dents re­ported see­ing a cor­don in place and pa­trol car at the time.
