HAL­TON Bor­ough Coun­cil is call­ing for vol­un­teers to help to look after vul­ner­a­ble el­derly peo­ple, with po­ten­tial for this to lead to a full-time role.

Sure Start To Later Life is on the look­out for new vol­un­teers to sup­port older vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple by ‘be­friend­ing, chat­ting, supporting them to go out, or IT sup­port.’

All train­ing is pro­vided by the coun­cil, as well as a full in­duc­tion.

Spa­ces are avail­able as some vol­un­teers moveon into em­ploy­ment, both within the coun­cil and ex­ter­nally, oth­ers can only vol­un­teer at cer­tain times be­cause of study, work or health is­sues.

Hal­ton Bor­ough Coun­cil’s ex­ec­u­tive board mem­ber for health and well­be­ing Cllr Marie Wright said: “No mat­ter how lit­tle time you have there is al­ways some­one who would ben­e­fit from a chat over a cuppa.”
