-

ON Monday evening in the Widnes & District Darts League, the latter stages of the Tommy Magee Cup (Bottom Half) took place at Widnes Bowling Club.

In the first semi-final, the Mill Brow SC took on the Millfield and found themselves on the end of a hammering.

The Millfield claimed the first three games via Ronnie Greylish, Keith Horabin and Brian Dutton.

The Brow managed to recover a point through Jack Dunn & Brian Spruce, only to see the Millfield take the next three games via Ian Wall & Brian Dutton, Chris Taylor & Dave Jones and back in the singles Dave Jones.

With the match already in the bag for the Millfield, the Brow’s Dave Powell took the penultimate game whilst Chris Taylor won the last contest wrapping up a 7-2 triumph.

In the second semifinal, Simms Cross Institute were up against Hammer & Pincers.

The Stute took a firm grip on the match winning the opening four games through Tony Green, Dave Evans, Mick Cullen and opening pair, Glyn Owen & Tony Green.

Merv Grady & Katie Smith recovered a point, but the Simms Cross Institute were not to be outdone by an everimproving Hammer & Pincers side as they took the remaining four games through Andy Abbott & Brian Abbott in the final pairs game, and back in the singles Glyn Owen, Keith Glover and Andy Abbott.

In the final, the Millfield took on Simms Cross Institute, and quickly established a tight hold on the match as Dave Jones, Ronnie Greylish and Alan Sutton (16 darts) took the opening round of singles to make it 3-0.

In the pairs, the Stute’s Glyn Owen & Tony Green took the first game and followed this with a further victory from Andy Abbott & Brian Abbott.

The Millfield rallied again, claiming the final pairs game through Chris Taylor & Alan Sutton putting them on the brink of victory.

And this soon became a reality as Ian Wall put them over the winning line to take the Tommy Magee Cup (Bottom Half).
