Pill provides perfect cure to single figures onslaught in Pavilions’ win
IN the Runcorn & District Bowling Association, Section One table-toppers Norley remain unbeaten after a 155-102 win against a weakened Helsby ‘A’.
Leading the way for Norley were Peter Ilidge (21-5) and Kevin Duncalf (21-8). The best reply for Helsby came via Graham Yearsley (21-11).
Castle SSC took on Pavilions ‘B’ and ran out the winners 166-88, no fewer than four players winning to single figures.
William Andrews and Helen Goadby both won 21-6 with John Gurney victorious 21-8 and Elle Winnington triumphant 21-9.
The only reply for Pavilions was recorded by Ken Plumpton (21-19).
Fourth-placed Hazel Pear lost ground on the leaders after a 125-110 loss at Kingswood ‘A’. Steve Jones (21-6) and Mike Forster (21-8) shone for Kingswood with the best reply for the Pear registered by Alan Dean (21-3).
Section Two leaders Kingsley ‘A’ also remain unbeaten after a 153-138 win against Overton.
The best win on the night was recorded by Robert Hill (21-10) with Marion Carter’s 21-13 win the best reply for Overton.
Second-placed Egerton Memorial ‘A’ took on their colleagues from the ‘B’ team and were victorious 140-133.
Bob Garner (21-8) was the best win on the night for the ‘A’ outfit while replying for the ‘B’ team was Dennis Horrocks (21-9).
Norton Arms ‘B’ in third took on Subscription winning 148-102. Three players won to single figures – Neil Scott and Robert Bennison (both 21-4) and Keith Scott (21-6).
The best reply for Subscription came via John Owen’s 21-9 success.
Section Three table-toppers Pavilions ‘D’ travelled to take on Goshawk but went down to a 157-128 loss. Impressing for Goshawk was Jean Harley (21-3) with Dave Stooks’s 21-16 the best reply for the pacesetters.
Second-placed Frodsham Cons were also on their travels and again came unstuck losing out 142-130 at fourth-placed Helsby ‘B’. Heather Ross’s 21-8 win for Helsby led their cause with the best reply for the Cons registered by Mal Cleworth (21-7).
Third-placed Halton RBL ‘B’ made up ground on the teams above them with a fine 160-105 win over a weakened Crowton.
Mike Ellison (21-4) was the best winner for Halton with the best replies for Crowton recorded by Alistair Dalzell and Sue Saville (both 21-18).
Pavilions ‘C’ took on Grapes ‘B’ and ran out the winners 129-119 in a tough encounter at Sandy Lane. Despite three players winning to single figures – Terry Clare (21-7), Tommy Hopwood (21-8) and Mike Highton (21-9) – the Grapes could not hold on for the victory, Joan Pill’s 21-7 card the best reply for Pavilions.
