After several years of casual running I ran my first marathon in 2014. I then made two mistakes: I let myself think I’d accomplished ‘everything’ in running by finishing a marathon and deceived myself into thinking I might ‘retire’. I bought a bike and dabbled in triathlon but realised running is about more than finishing a certain distance – and that I’ll never do ‘everything’ it offers. I’m now embracing it like I haven’t in years, and am on target for a half-marathon PB. Retiring is not an option!
