The Connemarathon is held in the wild majesty of (you guessed it) Connemara in the west of Ireland. It begins alongside the shores of Lough Inagh (pictured here) and takes runners through some of the country’s most dramatic and beautiful scenery.
Galway is the nearest city. It has some of the best bars in the country and great seafood restaurants.
In 2001, its first year, there were a mere 73 participants. This time, more than 3,000 runners will tackle the various distances (half, full and ultra marathon).
The Connemarathon takes place on April 23. connemarathon.com
