Take the stairs and feel the benefits

GOT A STAIRWELL at work? Say goodbye to the lift for a few weeks and you just might say hello to a new PB. A recent study, published in the journal Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, found that short bouts of high-intensity stair climbing improved cardiorespiratory fitness as effectively as sprint interval training on the flat. Subjects performed three sets of 20-second sprints up a flight of stairs, three days a week. After six weeks, they’d boosted their aerobic capacity by an impressive 12 per cent.
