OLDER RUNNERS MAKING THE GRADE

Runner's World (UK) - - Human Race -

When my husband and I ran a half marathon recently, he was the first v50 finisher and won £100 for his efforts. However, after checking the results by age grading, rather than by finish time, we found that he ranked third, with a grading of 91.69 per cent, one place above the winner, who won £1,000. The highest age grading – an amazing 96.15 per cent – was achieved by a v65 woman who ran 1:35:12. She won £50. The second-highest – with an age grading of 91.75 per cent – was by a v70 lady who ran 1:49:03. But she won nothing at all. Is this fair? Judy Rackham, Pinner, Middlesex
