One sure way to stay mo­ti­vated is to make a habit of re­ward­ing your­self postrun. When your re­solve weak­ens – such as when you’re tired or stressed, and any­thing seems more ap­peal­ing than run­ning – willpower can break down and the prom­ise of a re­ward might be the only thing get­ting you out the door. So, every time you come in from a run, have a small piece of dark choco­late, a re­lax­ing bath or an­other treat of your choos­ing so that your brain as­so­ciates ex­er­cise with grat­i­fi­ca­tion. The lit­tle things mat­ter.
