THE EX­PE­RI­ENCE

The 5.5-mile Gari­baldi Lake Trail climbs 820m through as­tound­ing scenery in the prov­ince of Bri­tish Columbia, west­ern Canada, pass­ing alpine for­est, wild­flower mead­ows and a lava dam be­fore fin­ish­ing with snowy moun­tain views. ‘You’re so re­mote and im­mersed in na­ture’s won­ders,’ says runner Re­natta Geissinger. ‘Af­ter a visit here, your eyes will thank you.’

STAY OVER

Garibaldi Lake of­fers camp­ing for multi-day trail-run­ning ex­cur­sions. The site joins up with a larger trail sys­tem that winds through Garibaldi Pro­vin­cial Park.

LO­CAL FARE

Re­cover from the hilly miles with burg­ers and cold beer at The Water­shed Grill – a 25-minute drive from the start of the trail.
