Be mind­ful to run fast

PRACTISING MINDFULNESS can help you cope with the men­tal de­mands of run­ning, says a new study1. ‘Mindfulness helps in­di­vid­u­als re­move emo­tion from judg­ments, fo­cus on the body and be more ob­jec­tive and ra­tio­nal,’ ex­plains study au­thor Dr Chia-huei Wu. He found that ath­letes with a more mind­ful dis­po­si­tion had greater men­tal fo­cus and were bet­ter equipped to per­form un­der pres­sure. Bonus: an­other re­cent study found that mindfulness can for­tify the im­mune sys­tem.
