Unstable shoes ease post-marathon fatigue
Masai Barefoot Technology (MBT) shoes could aid your marathon recovery. In a study2, one group of runners wore the shoes (designed to mimic walking on uneven ground) for a week following a marathon, while another group wore normal shoes. The MBT wearers recovered muscular force more quickly, and muscle hardness in their thighs and calves (a marker of tissue damage) also dissipated more quickly. The benefits could be the result of varying footstrike and increased blood flow.
