Runner's World (UK) - - Human Race - – Name and address withheld

After being mentally abused by my husband (now ex) for seven years, I suffered badly with anxiety and depression, and hardly left the house. Then, one day, out the blue, I dug out a pair of old trainers and hit the streets. I’d enjoyed running in the past, but hadn't been for years, as my ex didn’t like it. I’ve gradually built up my mileage and my mental and physical health have improved

dramatically. Every time I put on my trainers I think, ‘I run because you wouldn’t let me.’ I’m free.
