Jo on staying cool

Runner's World (UK) - - Coach -

If you turn up at a race on a very hot day this summer, take measures to cool down your core temperature before the start. Cooling vests are useful – these have pockets for gel-type ice packs and can be worn up until a few minutes before the start of the race. Otherwise, taking a bag of ice cubes in a cooler is a good plan. At championships in hot countries I’ve found it helpful to massage ice cubes onto the body, particularly around my arms and shoulders. And munching on them also helps cool you down.
