WE HAVE SOME BREATHTAKING NEWS:
pranayama – yoga-based breathcontrol exercises – could help you run longer and recover faster. In a study published in the British Journal of
Sports Medicine, runners performed a maximal treadmill test to exhaustion before learning and practising pranayama for six weeks. When they were retested, they were able to run significantly further before hitting the stop button, and their heart rate returned to normal more rapidly. The authors believe pranayama strengthens the respiratory muscles, improving running economy and, in turn, allowing more oxygenated blood to reach the working muscles.
