A Cambuslang woman insisted she was staying in Egypt despite the ongoing troubles in the country.

Charlotte Docherty (32), who has been teaching in Egypt since 2010, said that despite the situation, with a state of emergency in force and an early evening curfew, she fully intended to stay there.

Charlotte and husband Gary lived in the town of Maadi, near Cairo, but despite pleas to return home, said they were staying put.

The start of the new school year began, and teachers at Hallside Primary welcomed twins Matthew and Reis MacGowan, and Misha and Reuben Biswas started their lives in primary one.
