Tay­lor is Tories’ can­di­date

The Scot­tish Con­ser­va­tives have se­lected their can­di­date to con­test the Ruther­glen and Hamil­ton West seat at the Gen­eral Elec­tion in 2015.

Ruther­glen res­i­dent Tay­lor Muir will stand for the party to fight for the West­min­ster seat.

The 19- year- old is about to en­ter his sec­ond year at Strath­clyde Univer­sity and is cur­rently study­ing for an LLB Law De­gree.

His fam­ily are all based in Ruther­glen and years ago, his gran worked in the Hoover fac­tory in Cam­bus­lang.

Mr Muir said: “I am ab­so­lutely de­lighted to have won the se­lec­tion to be Con­ser­va­tive can­di­date for Ruther­glen and Hamil­ton West.

“I’d like to ex­press my thanks and deep ap­pre­ci­a­tion for all the sup­port I’ve re­ceived over the course of the last few weeks.

“My task now is to re­pay the faith that has been shown in me.

“I look for­ward to get­ting out and about in the con­stituency over the com­ing weeks and months, and speak­ing to as many peo­ple as pos­si­ble.”

In 2010 Con­ser­va­tive can­di­date Mal­colm Macaskill gained 4540 votes, 9.7 per cent, for the party.
