New blood is wanted

Ruther­glen and Cam­bus­lang res­i­dents can do­nate blood in the Royal Burgh later this month.

The Scot­tish Na­tional Blood Trans­fu­sion Ser­vice has an­nounced its next vis­its to the lo­cal area.

They will re­turn to the Royal Burgh when a col­lec­tion team vis­its Ruther­glen Town Hall on Tues­day, Novem­ber 18.

Do­na­tions will be taken from 2pm un­til 3.45pm, and again from 5.15pm un­til 7.30pm.

They will be at the Cam­bus­lang In­sti­tute, Greenlees Road, on De­cem­ber 17, from 2pm to 3.45pm and 5.15pm to 7.30pm, and will also visit Croft­foot Parish Church, 318 Croft­park Av­enue, on De­cem­ber 30, from 4pm to 7.30pm.

Male donors can give blood ev­ery 12 weeks. That’s ap­prox­i­mately ev­ery three months or four times in a 12 month pe­riod. Fe­male donors can give ev­ery 16 weeks or ap­prox­i­mately ev­ery four months.

Most peo­ple can give blood. As long as you are fit and healthy, weigh over seven stone 12 lbs (50kg) and are aged be­tween 17 and 66 (up to 70 if you have given blood be­fore) you should be able to give blood.
