Plans to link Rutherglen and Cambuslang through a new cycle route are being proposed.

An application to obtain the funding to create a feasibility study has been made by the groups behind the plan, Cambuslang Community Council and the Healthy‘n’Happy Community Development Trust.

It’s the latest move as they continue with the ambitious CamGlen Bike Town initiative.

The proposal is for a new cycle route and woodland walk along the south bank of the River Clyde, by upgrading an historic right of way.

Some sections of the route are already in good condition, but others require work.

It is estimated the minimum cost of the project would be between £500,000 and £600,000.

Discussions are currently being held by South Lanarkshire Council, Clyde Gateway, the Forestry Commission, cycling charity Sustrans and the Central Scotland Green Network Trust.
